Gratitude and Emotion Fill the Room
Sekar Kinasih, a student of English Literature at Technocrat University Indonesia (UTI), was officially recognized as an alumna of the YSEALI Spring Cohort on May 2, 2023. Gratitude and emotion filled the room on that occasion. Tears and laughter resonated simultaneously. Moreover, when the program director suggested that we approach someone special and express our gratitude, the sentiment grew even stronger.
Sekar, a student at Technocrat University Indonesia, is one of several Indonesian students who successfully secured a spot in the Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative (YSEALI) Academic Fellowship program in the United States.
Farewell and Hopes for the Future: Sekar’s Journey Continues in the U.S.
Dr. Patrick McNamara, Ph.D., is known for his warmth and friendliness. His smile is ever-present when speaking to anyone. One memorable instance for me is when he accompanied us, even joining the Eid al-Fitr prayer at the American Muslim Institute Omaha (AMI), despite being a devout Christian. When I presented him with a memento from Technocrat University Indonesia, he was deeply touched and honored. He mentioned that here, he engages more in social activities, interacting with the local community and foundations. In class, we only briefly covered “Introduction to Civic Engagement” once or twice.
Sekar bid farewell to the instructors with the hope of meeting them again someday. Vice Rector of Technocrat University Indonesia, Dr. Mahathir Muhammad, expressed his wish for Sekar’s success in the American program. He also hopes that Sekar’s achievement will inspire other students to excel in their respective fields.
Rasa Syukur dan Haru Sekar Kinasih
Sekar Kinasih, Mahasiswi Sastra Inggris Universitas Teknokrat Indonesia (UTI), diresmikan sebagai alumni YSEALI Spring Cohort pada tanggal 2 Mei 2023, rasa syukur dan haru memenuhi satu ruangan kala itu. Tangis dan tawa terdengar bersamaan. Apalagi kala program director menyarankan kami untuk menghampiri satu orang yang dianggap spesial dan mengucapkan terima kasih padanya.
Sekar Mahasiswi Universitas Teknokrat Indonesia, adalah salah satu dari beberapa mahasiswa Indonesia yang lolos dalam Program Pertukaran Pemuda Internasional Program Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative (YSEALI) Academic Fellowship di Amerika Serikat.
Perjalanan Sekar Masih Berlanjut di Masa Depan
Dr. Patrick McNamara Ph.D., Patrick merupakan orang yang hangat, ramah, senyuman selalu terpatri di wajahnya ketika berbicara dengan semua orang. Satu hal yang membekas untukku adalah ketika beliau mengantarkan kami bahkan sampai ikut sholat idul fitri di American Muslim Institute Omaha (AMI) meskipun beliau seorang christian yang taat. Ketika ku serahkan cenderamata dari Universitas Teknokrat Indonesia, beliau merasa sangat tersentuh dan terhormat.Ia mengatakan, di sini ia lebih banyak berkegiatan sosial turun ke masyarakat atau yayasan sekitar. Jika di kelas hanya satu atau dua kali belajar tentang introduction to civic engagement.
Sekar mengucapkan salam perpisahan dengan instruktur dan harapan untuk bertemu dengannya lagi suatu hari nanti.Wakil Rektor Universitas Teknokrat Indonesia Dr Mahathir Muhammad berharap Sekar bisa berhasil dalam mengikuti program di Amerika Serikat. Ia juga ingin prestasi Sekar ini bisa memantik motivasi mahasiswa lain agar bisa berprestasi di bidang masing-masing. (EDHO ADP)
